Newsletter and email
If you sign up for our newsletter — including through any freebie, download, or content upgrade offer — we collect the email address you provide, and optionally your name. We use it to send you the resource you requested, new posts, product recommendations, and occasional promotional messages that may include affiliate links.
Our newsletter is managed through Mailchimp (Intuit Mailchimp). Your email address and any information you submit through a signup form is transferred to Mailchimp for processing and storage. Mailchimp is based in the United States, so your data will be transferred to and stored on servers in the U.S. Mailchimp's privacy policy is available at https://www.intuit.com/privacy/statement.
Mailchimp uses tracking pixels in our emails to record whether an email was opened and whether links were clicked. We use this to understand what content is useful and to remove inactive subscribers.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, or by emailing us. Unsubscribing removes you from future mailings; we retain a record of the unsubscribe so we don't accidentally re-add you.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a "hash") may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
If you contact us through a form on this site, we collect the information you submit so we can respond. We keep these messages for as long as needed to handle the inquiry and for our own records. We don't use contact form submissions for marketing unless you separately opt in.

Essential and convenience cookies (set by us)
- If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies so you don't have to re-enter them next time. These last one year.

- When you log in, we set several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last a year. If you select "Remember Me," your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
- If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
- If you dismiss our cookie consent notice, we store a cookie recording your preference so we don't ask again on every page.
Third-party cookies (set by others)
- Advertising cookies from ad networks and their partners, used to serve and measure ads.
- Affiliate tracking cookies from Amazon and other merchant programs, used to attribute purchases.
- Analytics cookies, used to understand how visitors find and use the site.
- Embedded content cookies from services like YouTube, Vimeo, or Twitter when their content appears on a page.
Managing cookies: You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse third-party cookies specifically. Blocking cookies may break some site features, and it will not stop you from seeing ads — it will only make them less relevant.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.

Server logs

We do not sell your personal information.
We share data with service providers who help us run the site, specifically:

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
- Comments and their metadata: retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
- Registered user profiles: retained until the account is deleted. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.
- Newsletter subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe or ask to be deleted.
- Contact form messages: retained as long as needed to handle the inquiry.
- Server logs: typically retained for a limited period by our host for security purposes.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, have left comments, or have subscribed to our newsletter, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Do Not Track
Browser Do Not Track signals are not handled consistently across the industry, and we do not currently respond to them. We do honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out of the sharing of personal information where applicable law requires it.

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Data collected through this site — including newsletter subscriptions, ad measurement, and analytics — may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your own.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures, including HTTPS encryption, to protect information transmitted to and stored on this site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
